Back when I used to work in the corporate world, there would be motivational posters all over the place.
Now, I don't know if those posters actually "motivated" anyone, but there was one quote that really stuck with me...
"Be fired with enthusiasm...
Or you will BE FIRED, with enthusiasm."
This quote reminds me of the importance of energy! Think about it...
The most popular leaders of our time aren't always the smartest. Or the most qualified.
They're people with an energy that can ignite a room. People that turn ordinary situations into something memorable.
I want to help you access this power.
Here are 3 easy tips for more energy:
1. Take Care Of Your Basics:
Maximizing energy starts with the easy stuff.
- Getting the right nutrition
- Caring for your mental health
- Exercising regularly
- Getting check-ups
- And getting the right amount of sleep
But the way...to really unlock your body's potential...get into a routine.
When you do the same things at the same time every day, your body starts to use your energy more efficiently.
Think back to when you started driving. (This may be a really long time ago for some of us.)
It took a lot of focus to drive straight and use your blinker.
Now you can do 80 on the highway while drinking your morning coffee without giving it a second thought.
Now, that we've got the basics down, the next tip is...
2. Protect Your Mind:
Your mind influences your body.
Don't believe me?
Think about the first time you kissed the love of your life.
Can you feel that tingly excitement in your heart?
Now, imagine that you just got a tragic call about someone you love (God forbid.)
Can you feel your gut wrench?
That's because our brains don't know the difference between fiction and reality.
When we see a stressful situation, our body releases stress (fight or flight) hormones.
And, the more we dwell on negative situations, the more burnt out we start to feel.
This can cause us to be "mentally tired" when we're not actually physically tired.
Now, I'm not one of those new-age "gurus" that's just gonna tell you to think positive all the time.
It's not realistic for most people.
But, I will tell you to cut the "mental junk" as much as possible.
Mental junk being:
- News
- Negative People
- Worrying about the future
- and Dwelling on the past
It's much easier said than done, but cutting these things by even 30% will help a lot.
Basically, try to avoid things that you find mentally draining.
3. Push Yourself:
A great way to increase your energy is to simply push yourself.
Your body is capable of amazing things.
But it only gives you what you demand of it.
So challenge yourself to do more each and every day. Even if it's a little extra. It'll add up over time.
Have a job?
Push yourself to produce better results.
Have kids? Spend even more time doing things with them.
Workout twice a week? Try making it 4.
Strive for higher goals, and eventually, your energy will rise to match them.
