If you're ever trying to grow in any part of life, you're eventually going to run into a plateau.
You know...that place where you just feel "stuck."
Well, I have 5 tips that I (and other professionals) use to break through those troublesome limits.
But first this quote from Martial Artists & Film Star, Bruce Lee:
“There are no limits. There are plateaus, but you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. If it kills you, it kills you.”
Now that may sound a bit extreme, but it brings me to the first tip.
#1 You Must Believe That Breaking Through Is Possible:
We all know that our actions determine our outcomes.
But what determines our actions? Well...
our beliefs do.
If you believe it'll rain, you'll "act" and take your umbrella.
If you believe a degree will get you your dream job...
you'll go to college and get that degree and so on.
Knowing that our actions follow our beliefs, it's important to believe (wholeheartedly) that there's a level above where you're at in your fitness journey.
And wherever else you want to excel.
But more importantly, you need to believe that you can actually get there.
Get to that belief and hold it by reinforcing them.
Hanging around people who've already accomplished what you want to do is a great way to do this.
#2 Go Back To The Basics:
All worthwhile achievements in life are built on strong fundamentals.
Once your mind is geared towards advancement, it's time to check your foundation.
This part isn't about adding new workouts and techniques. But getting even better at the basics. Refining the things you already do.
You can check if you're doing all of your current workouts properly.
Maybe your diet isn't where it needs to be.
Or, your sleep schedule could be better. This brings me to tip 3...
#3 Fall In Love With Rest & Recovery:
The better you become, the more crucial it is to rest and recover...
Properly.
This means getting more and better sleep.
Maybe investing in massages, foam rollers, cryotherapy, etc.
Or just taking some more rest days.
There are things you get from rest that you'll never get from activity.
Taking some time off can help clear your mind, too.
And you might also stumble on a new way of doing things.
Which reminds me of tip number 4.
#4 Try Something New:
If your basics are in order, then it may simply be time to try something new!
This could be a new nutrition plan, getting a personal trainer, doing new workouts...
or trying a new workout formula ;)
It takes experimentation to break through to your next level.
#5 Bring Your Goals "Closer":
A popular tactic used in gun ranges is "bringing the target closer."
Since hitting a far-away target can intimidate new shooters.
Aim coaches bring them really close to the shooter. Like 5 feet away.
Then once the beginner masters hitting that target at that range, they gradually move the target backwards.
Then, once they master that new range, they move it 5 feet further. And so on and so forth.
This is done until the shooter's mind is no longer intimidated by that "far" distance anymore.
You should do the same with your goals.
First, set a long-term fitness goal.
Then, break it into smaller, easier goals.
If your goal is to drop 60 pounds in the next 6 months, then focus on losing 2 pounds this week.
Then 2 pounds again next week. And so on.
Do you see how much easier that sounds?
Keep hitting those closer goals, and before you know it, you'll have reached your long-term target!
Hope these tips help you to get to where you want to be!
